Masculine Bathroom

The last couple of months have been a whirlwind for me, to say the least!  I am doing a lot more remodeling projects with a fantastic Indianapolis based company that is really keeping me on my toes.  Multiple bath and kitchen remodels, entire house renovations, decorating finished projects.  It has been amazing and a blessing to keep so busy.  I have a trip to Alabama for some design work coming up next week.  (more on that later!)  Last week, Summer ended and Fall arrived!  :(  I have a love/hate relationship with Fall.  Did you notice I changed the look of my blog?!?! Woohoo!  Thanks Dinosaur Stew for designing my new site!  So many fun things going on right now!!

Staying busy means really staying on my game!  It's different everyday.  Decisions need to be made quick.  Designs are strategially put together, with no second guessing in between.  I am more organized than ever!  And my nights are usually filled with design inspiration and research on Pinterest and Houzz!

This bathroom remodel is in a gorgeous home, with a not-so gorgeous basement bathroom for their son.  They had such a clear vision of what they wanted and the mood they wanted to capture, that it was just up to me to help them pull it all together for them.

INSPIRATION

What I love about this bathroom is the sophisticated, masculinity it has.  The industrial touches, moody colors, mixed materials, all give it a manly feel.

We will replicate the mood and colors of this space, but not copy it.  These are the design details and plan for the bathroom.

Vanity - Custom Cabinets // Mirror - Pottery Barn // Industrial Vanity Light - Shades of Light // Plumbing, Faucet - Brizo Odin Collection // Towels - West Elm // Towel Hook - Anthropologie

I chose Eider White from Sherwin Williams for the wall color because it looks great next to the subway tile, and being a small basement bathroom, it will brighten the space and make it feel larger.  It is a very light gray color.  Elements of Style used and the same paint color in her bathroom renovation, and it looks great with her subway tile on the shower walls.

Not all of the walls will be subway tile like the inspiration photo, but we wanted to incorporate more subway tile in the space than just the shower walls.

So, I designed the space to have subway tile behind the vanity sink and toilet.  It is a great design element and functional as well because it is easy to clean.

I had to find the perfect, modern and simple mirror for the space because that was going to be a big focal point in this small bathroom.  I wanted something industrial and vintage looking with just a simple black frame.

After seeing this image on Pinterest, I loved the look of the round mirror.  So, I searched for something similar and found the perfect mirror with just the right dimensions from Pottery Barn.

I chose the Odin Collection from Brizo for all of the plumbing fixtures because it is modern, masculine, and industrial with the matte black finish.

It was important for the client to have a fun, quirky towel hook for hand towels next to the vanity.  I love this aged brass finish of the antler hook, but I also gave the client a couple of other options too.  Think outside the box when it comes to towel hooks.  There are a lot of things that can work as a hook that aren't necessarily sold for that purpose.

This masculine, industrial bathroom remodel was designed to stand the test of time.  It is a classic design that will work for their son for many years to come.  And will also be a great guest room bathroom in the future.  Can't wait to see it all come together and be completed.

Home-A-Rama 2015

The 2015 Home-A-Rama begins this week!

Beginning this Thursday, Home-A-Rama 2015 is located in Noblesville' Sagamore Neighborhood.  The show begins September 17 and runs through October 4, every Thursday through Sunday, from noon to 8pm.

This year, five custom-built homes are showcasing fully decorated and landscaped homes.  These show homes will feature the latest design trends in design, decorating, technology, outdoor living and landscaping.  I am especially excited to see the home built by one of my favorite local builders Old Town Design Group.  Their in-house designer, who is very talented, also designed my favorite home from Home-A-Rama 2014 with Heartwood Custom Homes.

See my complete review of last year's Home-A-Rama here.

For tickets and show information visit www.bagi.com

To see more details about the five homes built and an overview of each floor plan visit www.wthr.com/home-a-rama

I haven't decided which day to go visit the homes yet, or maybe I'll just go check it out multiple times...but you can definitely expect another full review when I do!

See you at the show!

Sweet Baby Girl Nursery

Our sweet niece arrived a month ago now!  All perfect 5.9 oz. of her and a head full of hair .  I posted about our excitement of her arrival here.

I guess it is time to officially do a reveal of her sweet little, adorable nursery.

You can read more about the design process and details of the nursery here.

This first time mommy has a great sense of style, so she was a natural at pulling this room together and coming up with some great decorating ideas.  I couldn't help myself but help her, so I was thrilled to know she actually wanted my help! ;)  Their new home has a beautiful, neutral palette throughout the house.  So, she wanted to keep the space sophisticated and neutral to match the existing home decor, with just a touch of pink!

sweet little Finley Erin loves her new bedroom too! ;)

I LOVE designing nurseries and kids rooms, especially when it is for family.  This is another favorite of mine -- my other niece's nursery I designed a few years ago.

Entry Way {Client Design}

It is not everyday when a client throws their hands up in the air and says, "do whatever you want!"  I mean, talk about a dream client!  Yes, there was a budget, as there always is, but since this client had seen my work and trusted I would do a good job, the entire Entry Way design was basically one huge surprise to them!  Which I loved!

Remember this Dining Room reveal I posted a couple of weeks ago.....

Well, while I was designing their Dining Room, I also designed their entry way.

An entry way or foyer is so important in an home because it is the first thing a guest sees upon entering your home.  It is their first impression of the space, it welcomes them into the home, and really sets the tone to the entire house!

I love designing entry ways because it normally doesn't take a lot of money or materials to make a huge impact in the space.  You just need some key features to get started and then layer in some accessories, and that is it!

5 THINGS YOU NEED FOR AN INVITING ENTRY WAY:
RUG:  this rug from West Elm was perfect for the space because of its graphic pattern and sisal material.  You don't want to buy anything you don't want dirty shoes to touch in the entry way.

TABLE:  I love this table from World Market.  It is one of my favorite go-to pieces that I have used in other client's homes.  It is mutli-functional anywhere in the home and you can't beat the price.

MIRROR:  since we didn't have to buy a lot of pieces for the space, I really wanted something a bit spectacular and grand here.  So I opted for this amazing Parsons mirror from West Elm in gray + white in an octagon shape rather than your traditional round or oval mirror.

LIGHTING:  I like the symmetry of having two lamps on a table in an entry way if you have enough space for it.

ACCESSORIES:  keep it simple when it comes to the accessories in the entry way.   I incorporated a small, shallow bowl in case you want a place to throw your keys or empty your pockets.  A (fake) plant for some greenery and a picture frame with an inspiring quote that can changed out seasonally.

This is how I REALLY design a space...........

Because this family just built this home and recently moved in, I had a blank slate to work with!  Love when that happens!

The Everett Table from World Market is perfect for this space because it looooong!  There was a lot of wall space to fill up here.  And, it is hard to tell, but there are two drawers on this table for a little extra storage.

Can't decide what to hang on the wall in an entry way?!? Hang a mirror!  Mirrors are perfect for an entry way because they reflect the light and make the space feel a little bit bigger, and, as an added bonus, you can check your make-up or put on your lipstick on your way out! :)

When you find two great mirrors you like equally, it is really hard to decide on which to buy.  That's why I like to put together these renderings to give me an idea of what the space will look like with each mirror.  Ultimately, I still couldn't decide even after an Instagram vote that turned into a tie, so I chose the octagon mirror.  Solely because the shape is a little different than what I would normally choose.

"what I love most about my home is who I share it with" because really, that is the most important part!

I am pretty obsessed with this rug!!  I want one for my own house now!

This familly arrived home just as I was finishing the decorating and putting every last thing in its place.  So, I made them close their eyes and I showed them the transformed spaces "HGTV surprise style."  It was so fun!  Their three daughters loved the space and gave me a huge group hug.  The littlest, who is three, thought the two spaces were "just adorable!!"  :)
