Home #5:  Old Town Design Group & Everything Home

There were a lot of new, surprising things from Old Town Design Group for me.  The homes overall color scheme and design style was a lot darker and more traditional than I typically see from them.  They have one of those building styles that is noticably their own.  I can spot one of their homes a mile away, normally, but this home was very different than what I am used to.  In a good way.  It is refreshing to see a new style and ideas from such a distinct neighborhood builder. The kitchen was nothing to write home about, but I loved everything about the eat-in kitchen area. (except the chandelier.  A little too traditional for me.)

Beautiful dresser in the Master Bedroom.

Typically, I see a river rock tile like this on a shower floor, but I loved the rustic twist of running it up the wall as well. And who doesn't dream of having a rain showerhead?!?!

I HAD to snap of picture of this adorable play room, that also doubled as a home gym becase I have this same Ikea rug in my dining room.

A great display of sports memorabilia on the walls.  What guy doesn't dream of having this?!?

This faucet was REALLY neat!  I get giddy over stuff like this!

Another awesome barn door.  I love that you can hide away a secret bar or wine storage in a closet.  A really neat idea.

This shower wall material is new from Kohler.  It looks like stone, but it is actually a fiberglass composite in sheets.  Overall, Kohler is usually a more high end material, so I don't know how this compares to tiled walls in a shower, but when you have to add in labor, waterproof material behind the wall tile, and then the tile itself, this could be a very cost effective way to get a high end look in the shower.

This rustic, unique piece of artwork in the hallway was really beautiful!

Another great use for a barn door.

I love painting interior doors anything but white.  I chose a similar gray for basement doors in this Westfield project I designed.

Overall, I love touring these homes every year and getting inspired for my own design projects, but actually I was slightly disappointed this year.  I felt like the interior decorating was not as on point as the past.  There weren't a lot of new ideas or trends that I haven't seen before, and unfortunately, I just wasn't that inspired.

Each home of course was gorgeous and had its fun surprises.  I LOVED how KBD Home decorated and designed their home!  It was refreshing to see something different and fun from them.  I think my expectations were a little high this year because last years home tour was SO amazing!  It was a great day walking around on a Thursday afternoon, and overall every home was just gorgeous and so fun to tour!  It is always fun touring someone else's house!

The foyer was wallpapered with a gorgeous gray wallcovering.  YES, WALLPAPER!!  Wallpaper is back!  I loved this light hanging in the entrance as well.  I used this same light in the lighting design of this home.  It's the perfect entry way light.

What a neat way to 'layer' artwork on the fireplace.

This designer used a warm gray + yellow color palette in the family room.

A better look at the really pretty chandelier in the space and a view into the dining room and kitchen from the second floor catwalk.

The Master Bedroom had a neat wood detail on the wall for a focal point.  This would be very easy to recreate.  The wall was painted a light gray color and then they applied these wood strips in a gorgeous diamond pattern.  The wood strips were painted a metallic gold/silver for another layer of texture.

I love using mirrored furniture in a bedroom.  Adds such a level of sophistication and glamour to the space.

Gorgeous Master Bathroom.  I am such a sucker for tile designs.  I always like having a tub next to a shower and sharing a wall of tile like they have done here.  Very well done!

Their basement design was amazing!

That is a tv lit from behind there...and I LOVE this rug from West Elm.

Gorgeous dark cabinets to match the dark trim in the basement.

Not a fan of the oversized hardware on the cabinets...what do you think?

I think every basement on the tour had dark gray of some shade painted on all of the trim and doors.  I love this design detail for a basement.

I could totally make one of these!!! :)

Home-A-Rama 2015 Review: Gradison Design Build

Home #3:  Gradison Design Build & Gradison Interiors

{favorite exterior design}

Gorgeous exterior!  From the design of the home to the colors, to the dark window grids.  This was my favorite exterior design.

How cool is this powder bathroom directly off the home's foyer?!?  This is a really fun idea for a space.  Keep the walls a simple white for a really fun, unexpected pop of interest on the ceiling, also known as the fifth wall!

Another great idea from this bathroom is the oversized mirror.  To make this powder room look larger, they extened the length of the mirror to extend the entire length of the wall over the toilet.  The wall sconces were placed on the mirror for added lighting.

I don't love the choice of butterfly wallpaper, but overall, it is a great idea.

Gorgeous family, and just look at those rustic beams!

Even a herringbone tile fireplace.  The neutral palette allows the beams to be a focal point.

Another great light fixture in the staircase!

The master bedroom was a beautiful color palette of blue and white.  Walls were painted Naval by Sherwin Williams.

The master bathroom had two matching vanities in separate areas.  Great for 'his' and 'hers.'  A huge, reocurring design trend this year was gold finished.  Here, they used gray painted cabinets for the vanity, marble countertops, and gold hardware.  All favorites of mine currently.

What a great idea!!  In the kids loft area upstairs, the designer chose white paint for the walls and added a pop of color for interest on the ceiling.  This is such a great idea for a kids room, kids playroom, or even a bathroom.

Some fun details in the basement bar like these really creative open shelves.

The bedroom in the basement was a fun, quirky design (with lots of elements from West Elm).

Even the mudroom off the garage didn't lack any design details.  A perfect farm house style wall sconce shines down on a chalkboard wall for staying organized.  I love that they chose to do an unexxpected navy painted cabinet here, versus just a dark stain or white.

And who doesn't want a tv that drops out of the ceiling on their back porch?!?
