As Seen On Fixer Upper {The Brick House}

The Brick House from Episode 2 packed a lot of punch into this little home on Baylor campus.  you don't need a lot of house for a lot of style.

There were a lot of things on this episode that got me excited.  From the original shiplap on the bedroom walls and ceiling to the cement tiles in the kitchen.  It was such a quaint little home with so much character and personality everywhere you looked.

I have to cut straight to the kitchen, because I almost jumped off my sofa when I saw the cement tiles Joanna chose for this kitchen!!  They are the SAME tiles, SAME design, I chose for my sister's home I am designing!  Joanna chose the gray color for this project, as I chose the black and white for my project, but I'd say we are definitely decorating soul sisters!! :)  You know everyone will be choosing these patterned floor tiles now that Joanna did!

Now that I have that excitement out of the way, let's take a look at the rest of this gorgeous little Texas cottage.

I'm obsessed with lighting!!  I would spend half of my client's budgets on lighting if I could.  I'm really passionate that good ceiling fixtures 'make' a huge statement in a room.  I love this light because it has a classic, yet interesting look to it.  It is dainty with the open airiness of it, but still makes an impact in the space.  

This size and style of light is perfect for a space where you may be walking under the light, versus like a dining room light.  Because it is wider than it is tall, you can hang it closer to the ceiling. 

I can never be completely certain of the exact items Joanna uses in her projects, but I would say this light fixture that I found is pretty close.

Joanna uses these drying racks a lot in her kitchen accessorizing.  They are cute, practical kitchen decor that can be found at a anyone's budget.  Antique Farm House drying rack is available now on their website, but as they deals change daily, it won't last long.   The drying rack from World Market is a little smaller, but at only $15, you get the exact same look for a lot less money. 

I LOVE decorating kitchens with bread boards or cutting boards.  They are a functional kitchen item that looks beautiful leaning against the wall as well.  These come in a set of 3 from The Painted Fox.  This online store is one of my favorites and has the best 'farm house swag!'

A vintage sign that says "eat" or "kitchen" or "bakery" are very popular right now and they come in lots of different sizes in styles.  I like the simple black and white signs because they make the biggest impact in the most sophisticated way.  I found this one on Etsy.  Antique Farm House also sells a large metal one occasionally as well.

As Seen On Fixer Upper {The Nut House}

Forget about a countdown to Christmas!!  I have been counting down the days to new episodes of the FIXER UPPER on HGTV!!!

The season premiere of FIXER UPPER aired this past week, and as most expected, we were not disappointed with the amazing remodeling skills of Chip and Joanna!  So let's get to it....

I love to feature the remodels we all swoon over from HGTV's FIXER UPPER, for many reasons.  But the biggest reason is to show people that it is easy to create a similar look and style in their home.  People think "Oh, that looks so pretty, but I could never have that.  I am sure it is expensive.  I am sure I can't find those same decorative pieces.  I could NEVER do that!"  We all watch these design shows and think our homes can never look that good.  But it can.  And it is all about dissecting the style and choosing similar pieces to create Joanna's popular farmhouse style.

I love that they are sharing the floor plans of the homes in the new season.  It really helps people get an idea of how the rooms are laid out in the space overall, and how each room relates to one another, and the size of the spaces.  And see all the walls Joanna ordered to be torn down!

How-To Recreate the Eat-In Kitchen Area:

I loved this eat-in kitchen area just on the other side of the island.  Here are some tips and ideas to create the same look in your home!

This table is very similar to the classic farmhouse style they chose for this kitchen.  Joanna chose to do a white painted built-in bench on one side, however, you can choose a bench like this to create the same furniture layout.  The chandelier I chose is a similar 6-light shabby chic style.  The wood crate from Save-On-Crafts, one of my favorite online places for farmhouse style decor, is a great table centerpiece for holding flowers throughout every season of the year.  Joanna used a lot of these hanging flower vases in lieu of artwork.  And a couple of throw pillows for the finishing touch!

The Entry/Living Room/Dining Room:

every guy wants a worn-in leather couch like this!

Navy blue is the perfect accent color to camel colored leather sofas like these.  These vintage looking over-dyed rugs are very popular right now.  While they can be extremely expensive, this one is reasonably priced from RUGSUSA.

Ship lap in the bathroom?!? Yes, please!

Was anyone else almost in tears when Chip got all choked up during his anniversary surprise to Joanna?!?!  I know I was!  This is why I LOVE this show.  Not only is it a fantastic design show, but this family is so real and so incredibly sweet!!

As Seen On {Fixer Upper is back for a 3rd Season}!!

It's the most wonderful time of the year......BECAUSE FIXER UPPER SEASON 3 IS FINALLY HERE!!!!

Forget about a countdown to Christmas, I had a countdown to Season 3 of Fixer Uppper!

With a new season and new episodes, this means a new series I'm calling As Seen On the Fixer Upper, where I will be bringing you all of the design and decorating details each week from the show.  We see decorating shows like this on HGTV all the time, but it's hard to try to take those ideas we all love from the shows, and bring them into our homes.  So, each week, I am going to break down my favorite decorating ideas from the show and show you how to create a home like Joanna Gaines.  I will showcase some of my favroite decor items from the show and let you know where to purchase the same or similar items to help you create your very own 'fixer upper.'

As Seen On the Fixer Upper {The Faceless Bunker}

BLOWN AWAY with last week's episode of The Fixer Upper....

I keep thinking, this is my favorite remodel Chip & Jo has done yet, and then they just keep getting better and better!!

This family was looking for a modern beach house......in Waco, Texas!!!  So, they chose a run down home with lots of potential of turning it into a Texas "beach" house.

What an amazing transformation......again!

This home must have been quite a challenge for them.  First of all, those original stairs in the home just looked crazy!  That was really the only thing you noticed in the house.  But after Chip & Jo got their hands on those stairs, I knew they didn't stand a chance.

These stairs -- the metal, the wire, the wood -- are definitely my favorite part of this home.  They set the entire tone of the home.

Loved this rug they used in the dining area.  It is a simple black and white graphic pattern that adds a lot of punch to the neutral space.  This rug is an in store exclusive from Magnolia Market.  But I was able to find a couple other similar rugs to get a similar look.

I am obsessed with these chunky floating shelves.  Floating shelves like this are all the rage right now.  I just had some installed in a basement project I was working on -- you may have seen a sneak peek of the shelves on my Instagram page.

The commercial styled rolling island they used in the center of the kitchen is really versatile if you don't have enough space for a fixed island, but are looking for a little extra space for prep work.  They can be rolled off to the side when they aren't needed or rolled into another room for additional space when entertaining.  It really added to the modern style these homeowners were after as well.

I like this simple stainless steel rolling island from Wayfair.com.  And at under $200, it is much more cost effective than a large wood island.

Hardware Bin Lazy Susan from World Market

Joanna also used something similar to this for kitchen decor and storage.  The Mechanics Caddy she used is from her online shop and is double tiered.  But this can serve a similar purpose.  These are great for fun and unique storage in the bathroom.  You can set a mason jar in it and keep your toothbrushes there or lotions and makeup.  They are also great to keep on the kids' table with markers and crayons in.  If you can find a real mechanics bin that was actually used to sort and organize nuts and bolts, that would be even better!

When searching for lighting, don't be afraid to look at outdoor lighting to use indoors as well.  There is no rule that says you can't use outdoor lighting inside.  I do it all the time!  I actually used something similar to this in a bathroom project with the light hanging over each mirror on a double sink.  Outdoor lighting will give you that more rustic, farmhouse feel.

Sometimes, outdoor lighting is cheaper than indoor lighting too!

You can never have too many flowers in your house!  They are my go-to decorating item -- real or fake!

You can get the same look with this vase and these flower stems from World Market.  I have a similar vase in my home that I like to switch out the flowers seasonally.

Another gorgeous remodel!  Joanna kind of stumped me on this one -- it was a little more about the finishes and fixed items than all of the little things filling the space, which is ideal for a modern, simplistic design such as this.
